Shawn Roed's steps away as Activities Director after 19 years of service

Dear Duluth East Community,

For 19 unforgettable years, I’ve had the extraordinary honor of serving as your Activities Director, a role that has filled my life with purpose and pride. There are no words to fully express my gratitude for the trust you’ve placed in me to be part of your children’s lives. You’ve welcomed me into their stories — their moments of triumph in competitions, their growth through teamwork, their courage in performances, and the quiet victories that happen when they discover who they are. To have played a role in those moments, to have witnessed the spirit of our students and the strength of this community, is a privilege I will carry with me always.

After much reflection, I’ve made the deeply personal decision to step away from this role to focus on my own children and to return to the education side of our school system. My kids are growing up faster than I can believe, and I want to be there for every milestone, every laugh, every memory we can share. This transition is bittersweet — leaving a role I love, in a community that means so much to me, is not easy. But I’m filled with excitement for this next chapter, where I’ll continue to serve our students in a new way, bringing the same passion and commitment to their growth and success. My new role will blend some of my previous experience as a marketing teacher, along with helping students succeed and prepare for the world of work.

Duluth East, you’ve given me a treasure trove of memories: the energy of our events, the creativity of our clubs, the unity of our teams, and the countless stories of heart and determination that define our school. To our advisors, coaches, and volunteers, thank you for your unwavering dedication. To our families, thank you for sharing your children with me and for your support through every season. And to our students, thank you for teaching me every day what it means to dream big and show up with courage. I’m not going far — I’ll still be part of this community, cheering for you always.

With all my gratitude and admiration,

Shawn
